Online ordering FAQ
What operators ask before turning on direct ordering.
Commission-free online ordering means you pay a flat monthly subscription for the platform (no per-order percentage) instead of giving up 15-30% of every order to a marketplace like Uber Eats or DoorDash. On a NZ$25 order, that's the difference between a flat fee and ~NZ$5-7.50 going to a marketplace.
A customer scans the QR at their table or shopfront, the menu opens in their phone browser (no app download), they add items, customise modifiers, and either send the order to the kitchen for staff to confirm or pay directly. Orders appear on the KDS or order screen within seconds — paper tickets become optional.
Yes. The same SmakSpace ordering page handles dine-in (QR scan), takeaway (collect-from-counter) and delivery (entered address + delivery fee). You set the modes you want to offer — many cafés run dine-in + takeaway only, while full-service restaurants enable all three with separate prep-time settings per mode.
Both. Modes are configurable per venue — "Direct Ordering" sends orders straight to the kitchen and customers pay at the counter / via EFTPOS afterwards. "Order + Pay" charges them in-app at checkout. Many cafés start with the former and switch on pay-in-app later when they're comfortable with the flow.
No. The customer ordering surface is a web app — it opens in whatever browser the phone already has. Guests can save the page to their home screen if they want to (it works app-like and remembers their profile), but there's no App Store or Play Store install required to scan, browse, customise and pay.
Yes, on Professional and Enterprise plans. Each item routes to the right station (grill, fryer, drinks, coffee, expo) based on rules you configure once. The kitchen sees a ticket the moment the customer hits "Order" — no paper, no shouted handoffs, no missed modifiers, and prep-time tracking starts the same moment.
