In one paragraph

SmakSpace works with the POS you already run — without integrating with it. Direct and QR orders land on a kitchen tablet in real time (or the orders dashboard on Starter), so the kitchen fulfils them without anyone re-keying a ticket into the POS. Your EFTPOS terminal (Smartpay, Worldline, Verifone, Windcave) keeps processing in-person cards exactly as it does today, and sales reach your books through native Xero invoice sync or GST-correct CSV exports. Two-way POS sync (menu import, order push, stock sync) for Lightspeed, Square and Toast is in early access on the Enterprise plan; no venue runs it live yet. SmakSpace runs its own staff counter till on a tablet — walk-up and phone orders, cash with the change due, or mark the order paid on your own terminal — but it has no cash drawer, no docket printing and no card-present payment through it, so venues that need a drawer and printed dockets keep their POS for that, while kiosk-led and order-ahead venues often find they no longer need one.

Three ways venues run it

Replace, coexist, or sync.

Replace

No POS? Kiosk-led venues can run on SmakSpace alone

Self-order kiosks, QR and online ordering feed the kitchen screen directly, with menus, modifier groups and daily reporting from any tablet or laptop. A tablet in counter mode also lets staff ring up walk-up and phone orders, take cash with the change due, or mark an order paid on your own terminal. There is still no cash drawer and no docket printing, so this suits order-ahead and kiosk-led venues. Your EFTPOS terminal handles in-person cards alongside, same as always.

Coexist

Keep your POS — add direct ordering

Your POS keeps doing what it does today. SmakSpace runs beside it as the customer-facing layer: QR table ordering, direct online ordering, bookings and loyalty. New orders appear on a kitchen tablet the moment they are placed — nothing to re-key to get food moving.

Sync

Want orders inside the POS? Enterprise sync

Two-way POS sync is in early access on the Enterprise plan: menu import from your POS, direct orders pushed into it, stock kept in step. Built for Lightspeed, Square and Toast, not yet running live at a venue. Tell us your POS and we'll say straight whether it's ready for you.

What happens when an order arrives

From phone to pass, nothing re-typed.

01

Order placed

A customer scans the QR at the table or orders from your ordering page. Paid online or marked for counter payment — either way it enters the queue instantly.

02

Kitchen sees it

On Professional and Enterprise the order appears on the kitchen display in real time — station routing, prep timers, item notes and modifiers, and an optional new-order chime. On Starter it lands in the orders dashboard on any tablet.

03

You are notified

The owner account always gets an in-app notification for new orders, with an optional email alert if you want one. No listening for a phone buzzing in a drawer.

04

Books stay clean

Paid orders sync to Xero as invoices automatically, or export as GST-correct CSV. Your POS keeps its own till totals — the two reconcile side by side at close.

POS coexistence FAQ

The questions we get at the counter.

It doesn't need to. SmakSpace runs alongside your POS — direct and QR orders are fulfilled from a kitchen tablet, your POS keeps handling in-person sales, and your books reconcile through Xero sync or CSV exports. If you specifically want direct orders pushed inside your POS, two-way sync with Lightspeed, Square and Toast is in early access on Enterprise; ask us first.
Not to fulfil them. Orders go straight to the kitchen display (or the orders dashboard on Starter) the moment they are placed — the kitchen cooks from that screen, updates status there, and the customer sees progress. Re-entry only comes up if you want every order recorded inside your POS itself; for that, ask us about the Enterprise two-way sync (early access) or reconcile totals at close via the exports.
Yes — untouched. Your in-store terminal (Smartpay, Worldline, Verifone, Windcave) keeps processing cards exactly as it does today; SmakSpace doesn't sit in that payment path and charges no surcharge for using it. Online orders are paid through your own Stripe, Windcave or PayPal account.
Lightspeed, Square and Toast are built, in early access and not yet live at a venue. Square and Toast don't trade in New Zealand, so for most NZ venues Lightspeed is the one that matters. Sync covers menu import from the POS, direct orders pushed into it, and stock levels kept in step. If you run something else, SmakSpace still works alongside it in coexistence mode — tell us what you run and we'll be straight about what is and isn't supported.
Any tablet with a browser — iPad, Android, or a spare laptop. The kitchen display is a web page: mount it, go fullscreen, done. No proprietary screens, no per-screen surcharge. It's included on Professional and Enterprise plans.
That's the intended path. Start free with a hosted QR menu (no card), then trial ordering alongside your existing setup — your POS and EFTPOS keep running throughout, and you can stop any time. Nothing about your current stack changes until you decide it should.
