The NZ-built alternative to me&u QR ordering

A me&u alternative that doesn't take
a cut of every order.

SmakSpace is the bundled, commission-free alternative — QR ordering plus POS, bookings, kitchen display and loyalty on a flat NZD subscription. Your customer data stays on your account, not the platform's. Free menu setup, and we load your customer list for you on request.

In one paragraph

SmakSpace is the New Zealand-built alternative to me&u (formerly Mr Yum) for restaurants, cafés and bars that want QR table ordering without paying a per-order commission and without losing the customer relationship to a third-party platform. SmakSpace bundles QR ordering with POS, kitchen display, bookings, loyalty on a flat NZD subscription, while your EFTPOS terminal stays exactly as it is. The customer profile, email, order history and loyalty record stay on your account. Free migration of menu and customer data from me&u during onboarding. Supported in NZ business hours.

You bring your own EFTPOS terminal or use Stripe, and you keep every customer email, order history and loyalty record.

Migration

From me&u to live in 48 hours.

Day 0

Free audit

We review your current me&u setup, contract renewal date, commission rate, table coverage and integrations (loyalty, accounting). We tell you what we can match and what we cannot.

Day 1

Menu + customer setup

We load your menu items, prices and categories from our CSV template or a photo of the printed menu. Modifiers we add by hand with you — item photos too on request, for larger menus — and on request we load your customer list. Order history stays in me&u, so export it for your records. You sign off before we proceed.

Day 2

Floor + QR setup

We rebuild your table map and generate new SmakSpace QR codes. EFTPOS or Stripe payments are paired so payment lands directly in your account, not a marketplace.

Day 3

Parallel run

Run SmakSpace and me&u side by side for 1–2 weeks. Test QR ordering at a few tables, confirm kitchen flow, validate the customer-data capture.

Day 14

Switch and cancel

Once you are comfortable, we help you handle the me&u cancellation paperwork at your next contract checkpoint. No double-paying, no rushed cutover.

me&u migration FAQ

Real questions from NZ operators thinking about switching.

No. me&u is an active platform (it merged with Mr Yum in 2023, with the me&u brand surviving) and continues to operate across AU, NZ, UK and US. Operators typically evaluate alternatives at contract renewal, when commission costs accumulate, or when they want to bundle QR ordering with POS / bookings / loyalty on a single platform.
SmakSpace charges a flat NZD monthly subscription. There is no per-order commission on direct orders placed through your SmakSpace QR codes — free to start with a hosted QR menu ($0 forever, menu only), then online ordering on Starter NZ$49/mo, Professional NZ$99/mo or Enterprise NZ$179/mo. Your payment processor (Stripe, or your NZ EFTPOS terminal) still takes its standard transaction fee, but SmakSpace itself does not take a slice of every order.
Not straight from a me&u export — our menu importer reads the SmakSpace CSV template only. We load your items, prices and categories for you from that template, or you send a photo of the printed menu instead: the AI does the typing and every item stays switched off until you approve it. Modifiers we add with you during onboarding, and item photos by hand for larger menus. Your customer list is not a self-serve import, but on request we load it for you as part of onboarding; historical order data stays in me&u, so export it for your records. Menu setup is included in our free migration support for NZ café and restaurant partners.
Yes. Customers pay on their phone after ordering through SmakSpace QR codes — same flow as me&u, but the money goes straight to your own Stripe, Windcave or PayPal account. No marketplace in the middle, no funds held by a third party.
SmakSpace QR ordering is web-based (no app download), supports modifiers and dietary tags, remembers customer preferences and language across visits, and routes orders to a kitchen display. The customer-facing flow is comparable; the difference is what happens to the customer relationship and order economics on the back end.
Loyalty is included on SmakSpace Professional and Enterprise plans — digital punch cards, points, tier-based rewards, birthday automation and customer segmentation. No separate add-on subscription, no third-party loyalty integration.
Onboarding is designed to take 48 hours from starting setup to running QR ordering live. We recommend a 1–2 week parallel run with me&u so you can validate the floor coverage, kitchen flow and payment settlement before fully cutting over.
