In one paragraph

SmakSpace is a New Zealand–built restaurant reservation system that runs inside a complete hospitality platform. It includes drag-and-drop table layout, party management, a no-show status staff can set on any booking, booking reminders on request, and a public-facing "book a table" page or widget you can embed on your existing website. Unlike marketplace booking platforms, there are no per-cover commissions and no diner-side fees — you own the customer relationship. Bundled with point-of-sale and online ordering from NZ$49/month; kitchen display, bookings and loyalty on Professional from NZ$99/month.

What does a restaurant reservation system do?

A restaurant reservation system manages incoming bookings, table assignment, party management and walk-ins from a single diary view, so floor staff always know who is arriving when and which table they belong to. Modern systems also handle automated SMS or email reminders to reduce no-shows, track customer history for personalised service, and integrate with point-of-sale and kitchen display so orders flow from table to kitchen without re-entry. SmakSpace bundles all of this (booking reminders are available on request) with POS, KDS, ordering and loyalty in one NZ-built platform.

Reservation features

Everything you need to run the diary.

Drag-and-drop floor plans

Build your room. Position and size tables, set each one's capacity, mark out indoor and outdoor zones.

Party management

Set minimum and maximum party sizes, turn times and a large-party threshold above which the diner is asked to call you. Each booking is assigned one table that seats the party; pushing two tables together stays a decision your host makes in the room.

No-show status

Staff mark a booking as a no-show when the party doesn't arrive. It stays on that booking, so past no-shows are there in the diner's booking history.

Booking reminders on request

Confirmation email when they book. Reminders 24 hours and 2 hours before are available on request, by email (SMS with your own SMS credentials) — ask us to switch them on for your venue. Helps cut no-shows.

Public booking widget

Embed on your existing website or share a public booking link. Branded to your venue, no diner-side fees.

Walk-ins + reservations

Same diary handles both. Floor staff see walk-ins arriving while reservations are pending.

Customer history

Every booking, every order, every spend. Recognise regulars and personalise service.

Native POS + KDS link

When a party is seated, the order taken at the table flows to the kitchen display automatically.

Restaurant reservation system FAQ

Common questions about running bookings in NZ.

A restaurant reservation system lets diners book tables at your venue — either through a public website widget, a marketplace listing, or a phone call entered by your host — and gives your floor staff a unified view of every party arriving, party size, table assignment and special requests. Modern systems also handle reminders to reduce no-shows, customer history for personalised service, and (in bundled platforms like SmakSpace) connect to the POS so orders flow from table to kitchen automatically.
Marketplace platforms (Quandoo, OpenTable) typically charge per-cover commissions of NZ$1–4 per booked diner plus a subscription, which adds up fast for busy venues. Standalone reservation tools (Eveve, Resos, Tableo) range from free tiers (limited covers) to NZ$50–250/month for full features. SmakSpace bundles reservations with POS, KDS, ordering and loyalty on Professional from NZ$99/month (recommended); Starter with POS and online ordering is NZ$49/month.
Yes, as a concierge service rather than a self-serve importer — send us your customer CSV export from Quandoo, OpenTable or Eveve and our team adds the records to your SmakSpace account during onboarding, on request. We also enter your upcoming reservations from the same export so your diary starts full; for Quandoo venues we do this ahead of the 30 September 2026 shutdown. Past booking and no-show history stays in the old platform, so export it for your records before you cancel.
No. SmakSpace reservations are direct from your venue to your diner — no marketplace commission, no diner-side booking fee. The cost sits with you (your monthly SmakSpace subscription), not with your customers.
Two mechanisms: (1) booking reminders — a confirmation email when the diner books, then reminders 24 hours and 2 hours before, by email (and SMS once you connect your own SMS credentials). Reminders are available on request, so ask us to switch them on for your venue. (2) A no-show status: when a party doesn't arrive, your host marks that booking a no-show and it stays on the record, so a diner's past no-shows are there in their booking history when you look them up. It is not surfaced automatically at booking time — you check, then ask for a deposit or decline on your own policy. Many operators only require deposits for repeat no-shows, not first-time bookers.
Yes. Copy a single line of HTML into your existing site (Squarespace, WordPress, Wix, Webflow, or custom) and the booking widget appears branded to your venue. Diners book without leaving your website. You can also share a direct public link if you only need to put it in your Instagram bio or Google Business Profile.
During migration our team enters your upcoming reservations from your previous platform's export, so no booked table is lost; past reservations stay in the old system, so export them for your records. Run both systems in parallel for 1–2 weeks while staff adjust. Future bookings get directed to SmakSpace via your website widget and Google Business Profile link. Your old platform retains its data until you cancel.
Yes. The diary handles walk-ins, waitlists and bookings together — useful for cafés where most parties arrive on the day but a few groups call ahead. You can turn off the public booking widget if you do not want diners reserving, and just use the internal diary for managing party size and table assignment.
